Elementary Overcrowding Solutions Task Force

Elementary Overcrowding Solutions Task Force

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

Earlier this school year, the Medford School Committee voted to create a task force to study the feasibility of a plan to address the overcrowding at our Elementary Schools. Since I began the role as Superintendent last winter, the overcrowding and a lack of space in our elementary schools has been a consistent concern heard from educators, caregivers, and building leaders across the district.

The task force will study and review the feasibility of a plan that would move all 5th & 6th graders in the district to the McGlynn Middle School and all 7th & 8th graders to the Andrews Middle School. Under this plan, our elementary and middle schools would look like:

  • All Elementary Schools become Grades K - 4
  • McGlynn Middle School serves all of Grades 5 & 6
  • Andrews Middle School serves all of Grades 7 & 8

Please note that if the Task Force recommends that this plan is possible, the earliest potential start of this plan would be for the 2027/28 school year.

Visit Here to apply for the Task Force. Whether you are a caregiver, teacher, administrator, or a proud resident of Medford, we welcome your insights and perspectives as we look to study the feasibility of this plan and best serve the students of Medford Public Schools. Please respond by Monday, March 23.

The Task Force is expected to meet 1-2 times per month after school throughout the remainder of the school year and study themes driven by community input gathered in late 2025. Additionally, subject to feasibility, the task force will continue to meet throughout the 26/27 school year to help guide the planning process.

Thank you for your input and collaboration in this important work as we strive to support our Medford students, families, staff, and community members.

Sincerely,

Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi, Superintendent of Medford Public Schools
